The bodies of a restaurant owner and her elderly mother were found in a vehicle outside Polokwane in Limpopo on Thursday night. Both women were tied up and had multiple stab wounds.
Lizette Deacon and her mother, Hettie, were apparently abducted in the late afternoon after a burglary at their townhouse in Welgelegen in Polokwane.
Police spokesperson, Motlafela Mojapelo said the Deacons’ neighbors wanted to visit them just after 18:00, but were shocked when they found traces of blood in the house.
“The police were immediately notified and a search for the two women was launched,” said Mojapelo.
Lizette and Hettie’s bodies were found later that evening in a vehicle abandoned along the R37 at the Kushcke off-ramp, outside Polokwane. The vehicle is presumably Lizette’s.
No suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the killings and police have launched a large-scale search for the killers.
Two cases of murder have been filed. The motive for the killings is not yet known at this stage, but according to Mojapelo, robbery cannot be ruled out.
Lizette was the owner of the Ocean Basket restaurants in the Mall of the North and Savannah shopping center in Polokwane.
