The hard-hitting Brit secured the interim IBF title with a surprising eighth-round technical knockout of Filip Hrgovic. Multiple cuts above the eyes of the previously undefeated Croatian led the ringside doctor to advise stopping the fight.

The official stoppage came at 0:45 in the eighth round on Saturday night at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Hrgovic, a 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist, entered as the heavy favorite, expected to win, especially by knockout. He had a strong start, landing jabs with ease in the opening round.

However, Dubois (20-2, 19 KOs) adapted quickly, making an impact in the second round by landing solid left hooks and right hands. Though Hrgovic had his moments, a cut above his right eye proved to be his downfall.

Neither fighter slowed down in rounds three and four, with Hrgovic having a strong fifth, landing several right hands. Dubois, who had been criticized in the past for his chin and resilience—having been knocked out in both of his career losses, including his recent title shot against Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) on August 26—redeemed himself in this fight. Despite taking hard shots, Dubois showed no signs of quitting.
