Two Killed In High Impact Collision: Mount Moreland – KZN
Two drivers were killed following a high impact collision involving three vehicles on the Umdloti Link Road between Waterloo and Mount Moreland in Verulam this morning (Sunday).
At approximately 07:24 the Reaction Unit South Africa Verulam Operations Center received multiple calls from passing motorists reporting the collision. Upon arrival a Toyota Corolla with extensive front end damage was found facing contra flow to traffic. The driver was lying in the back seat and sustained life threatening injuries and died at the scene.
An Opel Corsa bakkie and a Toyota Quantum taxi were found down an embankment on the opposite side of the road. The driver of the Opel Corsa bakkie was also killed in the collision and his body was trapped in the mangled wreckage.
The Opel Corsa bakkie was transporting employees of a cleaning service that is contacted to King Shaka International Airport. The occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Seven of their colleagues were killed in a collision on the same stretch of road earlier this year.
The occupants of the Toyota Quantum mini bus were not injured. At least six people suffered mild to moderate injuries were transported to hospital by various private ambulance services. The road was closed to traffic while Emergency Services rendered medical assistance to the injured.
The cause of the accident had not been established at this stage.
